ok i looked at the lineup of games (on bestbuy)
and i found that the MAIN games i really wanted to play came on both systems
the main ones i found that were on single systems are:

xbox 360:
Halo 3
Blue dragon

Ps3:
FF13
(maybe more on this one since i liked the ps2 lineup better than the xbox one)

I DO NOT NEED ONLINE PLAY (although i wouldnt mind it), so saying get a 360 cuz multi player is fun is pointless..
i will not choose a system because of the online play so please do not suggest 360 only because of the online rocks ps3's online

i do not know much about either of these systems but you do not need to explain anything.. just suggest which one you would rather and why
i know PS3 has bluray and i dont really care.. i dont buy movies.

the only thing i really want to know is backwards compatibility..
i know xbox 360 premium has backwards compatibility with MOST of the games
and not sure about ps3 at all (since they discontiuned the 60 and 80 gb) and those were the ones with the backward compatibility...
did they release a new 40gb with b ackwards compatibility? or does ps3 only play ps3 games?

The new ps3s use emulation, instead of hardware to play the old games.....


And really to be honest, the ps3 is where its going to be at soon, there is such an impressive list of games coming out, and since you said offline games, the ps3 s going to be right for you. Not to be stereotypical, but the asian companies release shit on te ps3, and its a high percentage of these games are rpgs. (Since most rpgs are out of asia...) You would play more on the ps3.

What kind of games do you play though? Obviously the 360 focuses on online play, and the majority of their games are focused on xbox live content, downloads, playing, etc..

I would explore IGN and look at the release dates tab and just see what games you can see yourself playing.

Achievements really make you want to play games more, and 360 has the best game lineup..

although i did pick up GT5 Prologue and it is great..... 360 is the better choice and gets more play time from me even if im not online

If you have a 1080 TV, buy a PS3.

Im not sure how it works, I dont own a ps3....but i am interested in buying one, so I have kind of been looking into it. I know that some games work on the ps3, the newer games mostly, and some of the older ones...

and you can copy movies, afaik the ps3 can handle the majority of the movie types, so avi and mp4 should be fine for you, along with divx ....iirc

You can't play any PSX or PS2 games on the 40gb. Only on the 20gb, 60gb, and 80gb. God, Sony really fucked up with their SKU's, so many.

I have like 5x the games from the 360 but my PS3 gets a lot more playtime because that's what i bought Rock Band for, Drums FTW.

Get the system that has the games your interested in. Sounds like the PS3 has more games you'll like.

Future ps3 lineup: final fantasy whatever? , little big planet, mgs4, killzone2, ????
Future 360 lineup: GOW2, Halo wars, Ninja gaiden2, too human, fable2, alan wake, Fracture(is this multi console?)


Again its just my opinion and the ps3 does have some good titles but the 360 has even better.

I have posted a lot of this stuff in another thread which is Stick a fork in it.....HD-DVD is dead, or something along those lines. The PS3 is a plain steal if you game or don't game. I will point out the simple fact that if you only want to game, the 360 is a way better choice, but I am a HUGE car fanatic, so Gran Turismo 5 (no, not prologue), sells me on a PS3.

That would be Ninja Gaiden Sigma. It's basically a remake of Ninja Gaiden Black with Updated graphics and gameplay. Rachel is also playable in the game. I liked the gameplay much better with the ps3 controller (because I've been playing with playstations since I'm 10).

Even if you've played Ninja Gaiden Black, I think Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a good buy. The graphics aren't too great though.

i've played ninja gaiden, for the xbox.. and i believe that black was a remake of that.. i never got to finish it so i'd definately buy sigma xD

There is another version however: A 40 GB "limited edition" bundle for MGS4. (Similar to MS's Halo 3 SKU.)
It is available through pre-order only, however I'm not sure when they are starting with these.

Oblivion's by far the best RPG available on 360(which also happens to be available on ps3 with Knights of the nine).

Mass Effect is crazy.

It's style and the isolated feel of the game make it a must play.

You could call it a modern RPG.

It is technically a 'role playing game.' You command the 2 NPC members of your squad and designate their statistics and tendencies while controlling your main character. It isn't your traditional turn based RPG (Final Fantasy.) Mass Effect has some Gears of War in it mixed in with a much better story and a very, very in depth world and history.

I would suggest just buying it. It is a definite must play.

If your looking for a more turn based Japanese style of RPG, you probably want Lost Odyssey. But it really isn't that good of a game... It doesn't stack up to a FF title, especially in terms of story and characters. I wouldn't suggest it at all.

FFXIII and FFXIII Versus have been promised to be here before Jan 1, 09. Those are really the only two that I know of and I like to think I keep a pretty good track on hot upcoming titles.

Fable 2 and Infinite Discovery (Square-Enix) will be coming to the 360 this year.

It's sad to say but I believe single player RPG's are a dying breed.

First off let me state I own both of these systems and either one would be a great investment. but...

honestly, if you aren't going for online play, I'd go with the ps3.

First off I don't know if you care much but blu-ray is a huge plus, considering HD dvd is basically done with.

Second...the good games taht are being released on xbox are playstation as well and playstation looks a lot nice on your 1080P. gta, call of duty 4, rainbow....all of these are on playstation..

In my honest opinion...you shouldn't own an xbox if you dont want online play / capabilities...that is what xbox is built around and many of there games are built around this as well...i like my xbox better for that reason...but for you I would go with the ps3.

Another thing I like about xbox though...is I like the achievement system...i like to play games and have something to show for the games ive played...its pretty much an ocd thing i have...like ill buy an xbox game and just beat everything in it just to unlock the achievements...and then never play it again, so that is another challenge i like on the 360 but that isnt the case for most people.

I bought my XBox instead of the PS3 because of the game selection. The xbox tends to have more American-style games and I prefer this over the Japanese-style that Sony has.

Also, I strongly recommend Mass Effect for the Xbox 360.

The catch is; MS is doing everything it can these days to keep people from buying PS3's (like paying Rockstar to make exclusive GTA4 content.) I think if EA started to plan a Mass Effect port, MS would offer them cash to keep it exclusive.
